el.résidu was born from a simple belief: beautiful clothes don't have to be new to be innovative.
In an industry driven by speed and mass production, we consciously choose to slow down. To pay attention. To materials that already have a history and deserve a second life.
Did you know that in the Netherlands alone, over 305 million kilos of textiles are discarded annually, of which only 1% is recycled? While so much valuable material already exists, the industry keeps producing.
el.résidu wants to show that there's another way.
We transform leftover and vintage fabrics into unique pieces that are not just worn, but experienced.

The fashion industry produces more than ever, while value, connection, and quality are disappearing ever faster. We believe that clothing should be meaningful again.

How we work
Every el.résidu item starts with existing material. Leftover fabrics and vintage textiles form the starting point of our designs. Because the material is leading:
- collections are created in small batches
- each item is unique or nearly unique
- we prevent overproduction
Our clothes are made in small-scale workshops, where craftsmanship, fair prices, and care for the process are central. We choose high-quality fabrics, refined finishes, and timeless silhouettes that last longer than trends.

The founder
I am Ella Brouwer, founder of el.résidu. After working for years as a designer in the fashion industry, I increasingly encountered the same problem: overproduction. Collections that followed each other at lightning speed, new fabrics while mountains of material were already waiting, it no longer felt right.
During COVID, I decided to quit my job because I no longer wanted to be part of a system that continues to produce without considering the consequences. Instead, I wanted to work with what was already there, with leftover fabrics. With material that had been forgotten, but still held a lot of potential.
With el.résidu, my mission is to challenge the current way of working in the fashion industry while creating something beautiful. By making unique items designed with care, I want to show that we can approach clothing differently. Buy less, choose more consciously, and wear longer.
el.résidu is my way of starting a movement: one in which clothing regains its value.
