For the el.résidu sari collection, carefully selected vintage saris from India were used. A sari is a traditional garment that has been worn for centuries by women in India and other parts of South Asia. The word sari literally means 'strip of cloth' in Sanskrit, and for good reason. A sari consists of approximately 4 to 8 meters of fabric, rich in color, print, and history.
The saris in this collection are made from silk, cotton-silk, and viscose blends. These materials were hand-selected for quality, print, and comfort, and then transformed into contemporary designs.
Saris have a long history: the first references date back to around 3000 BC. To this day, they are traditionally worn by Hindu and Islamic women in countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. What makes sari fabrics so special are their rich colors, prints, and sometimes delicate embroideries.
The symbolism in the prints tells stories. Animals like elephants, peacocks, and lions symbolize power, royalty, and prosperity, values that have been passed down for generations through textiles.
The sari collection consists of timeless items that can be worn and styled in multiple ways. Each design is available in two sizes (S/M and L/XL) and is produced in very limited editions. By using vintage fabrics, each item is unique; no two prints are the same.
This collection is made for those who dare. For lovers of striking prints, rich colors, and clothing with character. For everyone who wants to make conscious choices and connect on a deeper level with what they wear—by respecting the past and creating new stories together.
Because this collection is made from pre-loved sari fabrics, small irregularities or signs of wear may be visible. This is not an imperfection, but rather the beauty of upcycling and proof of a life the material has already lived. This is precisely what makes each item extra special.
