Ethical Fashion - What does that mean?

Ethical Fashion - Wat betekent dat?

What exactly is ethical fashion?

Is it just another term for sustainable fashion? A word that sounds better nowadays because brands have become afraid of being accused of greenwashing when they use sustainable in their communications?

For el.résidu, it means making fashion with care.
Care for people, and for the planet.

I believe that clothing does not have to come at the expense of people or the environment. That's why we make each item in the most conscious way possible.

The collections are made entirely from vintage fabrics or leftover materials. This includes carefully selected, discarded saris given a second life, hand-woven Ikat made from the softest cotton or hand-spun silk traditionally dyed with natural ingredients — without harmful chemicals.

In addition, all items are produced in small batches, in female-run ateliers, which I have personally visited and carefully selected. I pay them a fair price, and we work very closely together during the development process. It is a co-creation in which we not only design but also celebrate the craftsmanship visible in every garment.

At el.résidu it's not about trends, but about timeless pieces with a story — made with love, worn with pride.

I am convinced that the love and craftsmanship woven into these items can truly be felt when wearing them. No trend can compete with that. This is the value that clothing, in my opinion, should have. As my first ever written slogan when setting up el.résidu already beautifully described it back then:

''Clothes that are honest, outspoken, and make you happy''
