GUAVE and el.résidu are joining forces because we both share the same mission:
''Slow down the pace of fashion and revalue authentic craftsmanship''
Looking for colorful, unique, and daring pieces? Feel free to visit our POP-UP STORE at Kloosterstraat 177 in Antwerp from August 1 to 6, 2023.
GUAVE (founded by Romee and Myrthe) and el.résidu are both brands based in Amsterdam. They operate in different ways but share the same mission: to make the (fashion) world a better and more conscious place. Coming from backgrounds in fashion and textiles, where we saw that this industry was far from fair and transparent, we decided to do things differently.
GUAVE is a slow fashion label that focuses on handmade Javanese batik from Indonesia in its designs. The unique batiks are made by talented batik makers in Java and then translated into contemporary designs and custom-made items. These are produced with great care in their studio in Amsterdam. In this way, they aim to contribute to the preservation of this special craft and introduce it to as many people as possible.
Ella (founder of el.résidu) only uses so-called 'dead stock' or vintage materials, giving them a second life by transforming them into unique items. In this way, she aims to contribute to reducing the large amount of textile waste we face globally. Additionally, she highlights the makers in India, ensuring that each garment tells an ethical story and restores the value that clothing, in her opinion, should have.
Romée, Myrthe, and Ella decided to join forces to take their mission to a new level – even across the Dutch border, to Antwerp. From Kloosterstraat 177, the beautiful collections will be available from 01-08-23 to 06-08-23.
What you can expect is a true feast of colors from GUAVE's most beautiful Javanese batik fabrics and el.résidu's vintage saris and ikat fabrics from India.
''The three of us share a preference for authentic craftsmanship and the history found within the cultures of these two special Asian countries. Many techniques and designs are reflected in current fashion trends but have completely lost their value. By returning to the origin and conveying this to our customers, we hope to create awareness that can change the fashion industry for the better!'' - Ella
